Mogadishu, June 24, 2026 — Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology (JUST) has achieved a historic milestone by ranking 2nd among universities in Somalia in the newly released Times Higher Education (THE) Impact Rankings 2026.
The THE Impact Rankings are the only global performance tables that assess universities against the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This recognition highlights JUST’s unwavering commitment not only to academic excellence but also to sustainability, social responsibility, and driving impactful change across Somalia and beyond.
A Testament to Sustainability and Social Responsibility
Unlike traditional ranking systems that focus heavily on research output alone, the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings evaluate how higher education institutions contribute to addressing the world’s most pressing challenges, including poverty alleviation, quality education, gender equality, climate action, and economic growth.
Securing the 2nd position nationwide is a clear reflection of JUST’s dedication to community engagement, innovative research, and fostering inclusive education. Key initiatives, including our collaborative partnerships and localized healthcare and technology initiatives, have contributed directly to this incredible achievement.
A Message from Leadership
Commenting on this milestone, Eng. Abdirizak Warsame Abdulle, Vice President of Academic Affairs and newly elected President of Jamhuriya University of Science and Technology, stated:
“Achieving the 2nd position in Somalia in the THE Impact Rankings is an extraordinary honor for the entire JUST community. This milestone reflects our mission to look beyond the classroom and ensure our academic resources, research, and community outreach build a resilient and sustainable future for Somalia. It proves that our local actions are resonating on a global stage.”
Thank You to Our Community
This historic accomplishment belongs to our dedicated faculty, researchers, staff, and students, whose hard work and innovative spirit continue to drive our institution forward. It also stands as a tribute to our local and international partners who support our vision of bringing sustainable development through science and technology.
Moving forward, Jamhuriya University remains dedicated to scaling new heights, continually improving its academic and societal contributions, and preparing the next generation of Somali leaders to create positive global change.
